Welcome!  We are full-time missionaries in Papua New Guinea, working with the Akolet people group located on the island of West New Britain.  In March 2007, we began working toward our goal of learning their unique and complex language and culture in order to one day communicate the truth of God's Word to them in a clear, relevant way.  Over the next several years, we hope to see many mature churches established that have their own leadership, their own translation of the New Testament, and a strong desire to go out into surrounding Akolet villages and even into surrounding people groups, reaching others with the truth of Jesus Christ with which they themselves have been reached.

Papua New Guinea is an island nation located to the north of Australia and to the east of Indonesia.  The Akolet tribe is in the region of West New Britain, where (see the green arrow to the right).  Click the map for a better view of the part of the world we now call home.

We keep two blogs going.  Praises and Prayer Requests keeps our friends, family, and supporters in touch with our prayer needs and our praises to God, and Bush Notes is our online journal, full of our experiences in Papua New Guinea.

Dear Praying Friends,

We wanted to take a moment to let you know how our language check went as many of you have been praying for us.

Short Version: Our language consultant, Aaron, said that we’re pretty much where he thought we would be in our knowledge of and abilities in Akolet language and culture. Praise the Lord for that! (Secretly we were hoping to be lauded for our exceptionally proficient grasp on the language, but of course we will happily settle for being good ol’ average, right??)

He spent time observing our interactions with our Akolet friends and assessing our progress over the last 6 months since the last time he was in here. He encouraged us with where we’re at and gave us some great ideas for how to keep progressing over the next six month period of our language
study.

We were both able to mentally relax a bit after the official part of our check was over, and while our brains felt a little fried, it was worth it to know better where we’re at.

As travel in PNG is quite unpredictable, Aaron’s flight that had been scheduled for Thursday got changed to Friday, so we had an unplanned extra day with him in here. This worked out unexpectedly well for us, because a large share of the village was going on a wild pig hunt yesterday and so Adam and Aaron tagged along. Look for pictures of that on our website in
the coming weeks!
